Locus Energy acquires 158 GWh hydropower portfolio in Norway, strengthening its position as a pan-Nordic IPP

SEB Nordic Energy’s portfolio company Locus Energy have acquired a 158 GWh hydropower portfolio located across Norwegian price areas NO2 to NO5. The portfolio includes a range of high-quality hydro assets that significantly strengthens Locus Energy’s position in the Norwegian and Nordic energy markets.

The acquired portfolio consists of operational assets and assets under construction, spread over the price areas NO2-NO5. After COD the assets will contribute 158 GWh per annum to Locus Energy’s existing hydro power portfolio, now amounting to approximately 410 GWh per annum in total. This strategic acquisition supports Locus Energy’s pan-nordic IPP of wind, hydro and BESS portfolios in Norway, Sweden and Finland.

“We are very pleased with the outcome of this transaction and the professional, constructive process with Locus Energy“ says Rein Husebø, Managing Director of Forte Vannkraft. They bring both deep market insight and a long-term commitment to value creation, which made them an ideal buyer for these assets.”

The integration of this hydropower portfolio not only grows Locus Energy’s renewable energy footprint but also significantly increases asset density in Norway.

“The addition of reliable hydropower generation reinforces Locus Energy’s long-term strategy with a solid cash flow profile. By expanding strategically within the Nordics and leveraging synergies across technologies and geographies, the company is building a scalable, resilient platform with long-term value potential. We are excited to support the next growth phase.” says Richard Gavel, Portfolio Manager at SEB Nordic Energy.

This hydro power portfolio complements Locus Energy’s existing hydropower, wind power and BESS assets. By diversifying renewable asset classes within the same price areas Locus Energy can optimize market participation, manage intermittency, and generate a “system premium” that goes beyond standalone asset performance. Furthermore, the company have identified multiple possibilities in current markets allowing a continued growth during 2025.

“This acquisition is a strategic step towards building a geographically balanced, technologically diversified, and financially optimized renewable portfolio. With hydropower, wind power and storage assets now strategically positioned across Nordic price areas, we are unlocking a system premium that reinforces our competitive edge across the Nordic power market.” says Niklas Sörensen, Founding partner and CEO of Locus Energy.
